Good morning everyone! I hope you had a wonderful and relaxing weekend. My husband surprised me (early) with a 4 day weekend getaway planned over our wedding anniversary coming up in two weeks. We’ll be vacationing in Nova Scotia for that long weekend, which is exciting since we’ve both wanted to go for awhile now and neither one of us have been out that far east. Thinking about our upcoming wedding anniversary reminded me that June is a popular wedding month, and that inspired today’s knit-under-the-desk-able pattern, the Cathedral Purse from KnitPicks.

This pattern is both beautiful and for lace, is very simple. I know I try to steer clear of most lace patterns as suggestions here at KUTD since they can get intricate, but this project is so small and the lace chart is so basic that I thought it would be doable.  The pattern is a combination of your traditional knit and purl stitch with some ssks and yarn overs thrown in and an occasional make 1 and a decrease called the central double decrease that you’ll come across only a handful of times.

The Cathedral satchel pattern calls for a sport weight cotton blend (KnitPicks recommends their Shine Sport yarn) and US size 5 needles. It is the perfect accessory this summer if you’re attending a wedding or other formal event and can be done in a wide variety of cheerful colors to suit. The Cathedral purse would also make a beautiful bridal accessory and would be cherished as a gift.  The size is great for toting around the necessities elegantly. While beading may not be very knit-under-the-desk user friendly, the option of adding some beadwork like pearls, using a sparkly sport weight yarn, or weaving a delicate ribbon at the neck can instantly ramp up the formality of this gorgeous piece, too.

With as many weddings that take place in the summer months, there’s sure to be more wedding-related pattern suggestions over the next month or two, scattered in amongst other features. Father’s Day is just around the corner, too, so you’re sure to find some great gift ideas for dad starting next week.  Do you have a great suggestion for KUTD? Please email it to me and I’d love to feature it and you here on the blog :) Have a fantastic Monday!
